Nature Immersion & Cancer Support
I know up close & personal how nature immersion & acupuncture contributes in a positive way to life during and after cancer diagnosis and surgeries. For the past twenty years my experience with cancer has included colon, renal cell (kidney), melanoma, squamous as well as basal cell surgeries.
Nature Immersion, acupuncture and Cancer life.
Each recovery period taught me that true healing extends far beyond the operating room. In the quiet aftermath of surgery, when the body feels depleted and the spirit fragile, stepping into nature becomes one of the most powerful forms of medicine. Forest bathing, barefoot walks on earth, or simply sitting beside a flowing stream allows the nervous system to shift from sympathetic “fight-or-flight” into deep parasympathetic restoration. This recalibration is essential for rebuilding vitality after the trauma of anesthesia, tissue removal, and the energetic drain that often lingers long after scars have formed.
A Yang Sheng lifestyle, Traditional Chinese Medicine’s art of nourishing life, thrives on this daily reconnection with the natural world. After cancer surgeries, the body’s Qi and Blood are often compromised; nature immersion helps restore them by regulating circadian rhythms, boosting immune function through personal interaction closeness with certain trees (I’ll discuss the science behind this in a future post) and gently moving stagnant energy that can accumulate around surgical sites. Morning sunlight on the skin, mindful breathing in the wild, and grounding on natural surfaces all support the Spleen and Kidney systems that are frequently taxed during cancer journeys.
When paired with acupuncture (especially gentle abdominal “Sacred Turtle” styles or the NADA protocol), these practices create a powerful synergy that promotes tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and reignites a sense of inner vitality and purpose. Nature doesn’t just soothe it actively rebuilds the foundation for long-term wellness.
Embracing this approach has become my daily practice: short immersions in green spaces even on challenging days remind me that healing is ongoing and deeply relational with our bodies, with the earth, and with life itself. The combination of nature’s rhythms and thoughtful TCM support turns survival into thriving.
